History of Save to Win

Save to Win has been changing lives of credit union members since 2009. This innovative and national award winning prize-linked savings product was designed to help low-to-moderate income people improve their financial lives and create better savings habits. In 2012, Save to Win expanded to additional states and CU Solutions Group, affiliate of the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) took over the product management aspects for the program. 

Program Timeline

2008 - Save to Win is developed by Commonwealth, the Filene Research Institute and the MCUL. The pilot program launches in Michigan in 2009 and generates 11K member accounts and $8.5M in savings in the first year.

2012 - Nebraska launches the second individual state program. Save to Win receives the CUNA Pro and Blockbuster Award - Best Public Relations Product.

2013 - North Carolina and Washington launch individual state programs. Save to Win receives the CUNA Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award - 1st Place League Product.

2015 - Individual state programs are discontinued except for the Washington state program and the first large scale national prize-linked savings program is created.

2019 - 126 credit unions in 16 states are promoting Save to Win with more than 30K accounts and $50M in savings. Program to date - $200M has been saved and $3M in prizes have been awarded to credit union members nationwide.
