History of Save to Win

Save to Win has been changing lives of credit union members since 2009. This innovative and national award winning prize-linked savings product was designed to help low-to-moderate income people improve their financial lives and create better savings habits. In 2012, Save to Win expanded to additional states and CU Solutions Group, affiliate of the Michigan Credit Union League took over the product management aspects for the program. For details on the expansion of the Save to Win program, findings and more information on prize linked savings click here

Program Timeline

2008 - Prize-linked savings product is developed by Commonwealth, the Filene Research Institute and the MCUL

2009 - State of Michigan pilot attracts over 11,000 member accounts in the first year

2010 - First $100,000 grand prize is awarded in Michigan

2011 - Michigan program expands to 43 credit unions

2012 - Nebraska launches Save to Win and credit union members save nearly $2M. CU Solutions Group (CUSG), Affiliate of the MCUL takes over product administration for the national program  

2013 - North Carolina and Washington launch Save to Win

2015 - Single state programs are discontinued with the exception of the Washington state program. Connecticut and Virginia join Michigan and Nebraska CU’s to promote the first large scale national aka multi-state program

2016 - North Carolina, Indiana, Illinois, Oregon, South Carolina and New York join the multi-state program

2017 - Kansas and Missouri join the multi-state program, making 11 states on the national program plus Washington on an individual state program
